Mercari charges 10% for every sale you make no matter how low-priced the item is. Also, if you are transferring your Mercari balance below $10, Mercari charges you $2 for the transaction.
So instead of giving them $10, just wait until you sell something else, and then you can transfer over $10 without any fees.

I understand Mercari may be overwhelming when you’re just getting started.
Don’t worry, you’ll get the hang of it soon.
After listing an item, and adding then description, go to shipping, and choose “who do you want to pay for shipping, select I’ll pay, then open shipping just above Who do you want to pay for shipping.
That’s where you’d find Ship on your own or prepaid label.
Apparently, if you are shipping on your own, then it has to be free shipping.
But I’d suggest you add the shipping cost to your listing price so that you can get your money back.
Does this make sense?

Thank you so much for all this great info. Still trying to figure out how to list products and I don’t know why I am having a having such a hard time. I will use your discount link that you gave because on Mercari’s site they only offer $5 for first listing. Anyway, the info for selling is good but I see no option where I can opt out of shipping by Mercari alone. All I see on the listing page is who pays, you or buyer. Also, I can not find where I put my bank info. All I see is where I put credit card/debit card, under payment methods. Is there anyway to put my checking account information or do I need a debit card for my checking account? Since I only got a simple checking account I don’t have a debit card so would have to get one if that is my only option. Sorry, I’m driving you as crazy as I am driving myself right now.

The shipping rate you see when listing your items is set, and they cannot be changed when printing out your label. For any item that weighs more than 1pound, I normally use FedEx $7.99 instead of USPS $11. Check out this post for Mercari fees – Mercari Fees – What You Need To Know Before Getting Started

You’re so welcome.
If you are shopping on Mercari, you can pay with PayPal.
But as for getting your funds, Mercari only pays through direct deposit to your checking or savings account. So make sure to add your checking account to Mercari.
And they don’t pay to your bank automatically, so you have to click “my balance” on your profile, then click transfer balance, then confirm your bank details, and Mercari would transfer your funds to your checking account.
But Facebook Marketplace pays directly to your bank account as soon as your buyer gets their item.

Thank you so much for that information. It sounds like shipping directly through Mercari might be less headache inducing. I have another question. I already have a Mercari account and pay through Paypal because of the added protection. I also just opened another checking account just to sell on Mercari. When a product I have listed sells, how does Mercari pay me? Do they pay me through paypal or do I have to put the checking account information under my account settings in Mercari? Thanks for any information.

It’s true. Poshmark has that feature, but Mercari does not.
Thanks for even bringing it to my notice.
I had no idea there’s nowhere to see offers sent by sellers to buyers.
It’s crazy.
It would be great if we could see them, and maybe keep track of offers sent.
I actually had to send an offer myself to confirm that there’s no way to see sent offers from sellers to likers.

Yes, when selling on Mercari, you can use their prepaid shipping labels, and you also have the option to ship on your own as long as you provide a tracking number as soon as you ship.
If you are offering free shipping and shipping on your own, you can use PayPal USPS shipping label service, and schedule a pick up with USPS.
I have not used ShipEasy or ShipStation, so I’m not sure how they work.

Lot of great information in a concise and useful way. Thank you. I’m sure I’m going to have plenty of questions for you as I figure out whether to switch over from eBay to Mercari. You mentioned shipping rates. Would I be able to ship outside of Mercari or do I have to use what they offer? If I’m offering free shipping, can I go to the post office and get it shipped from there or even use another shipping app, like ShipStation, ShipEasy, or Paypal’s shipping label service?

#1 To share your listings to Pinterest, you need to choose one of your boards.
So I have a Pinterest board titled Mercari, that’s where I share my listings.

#2 If you want your listings to appear on Pinterest’s front page, you may have to promote them on Pinterest, but you’d still need to pin them to your board.
When it says “promote, it takes you to a page to set up billing because Pinterest charges users to promote and get their products to the front page.
I think the lowest for Pinterest promotions is $10 for maybe 10 days or so.

#3 The drop in engagement your items used to get can be a result of Pinterest’s ever-changing algorithms.

Maybe you can change the days and time you share your items, and see how it goes.

Selling from our homes is how most of us started selling on Mercari and Poshmark.
As for the shipping jump, that’s one of the reasons why Poshmark is better than Mercari.
Anyway, if you have to ship and the rate skyrockets to $9.99, you can’t afford free shipping, I suggest you let the buyer pay.
I think you’re probably putting yourself in the buyer’s shoes, and that’s cool.
I do that too because it pinches me to pay $9.99 for shipping, but the seller can’t cover it too.
But the truth is, some buyers don’t mind paying $9.99 for shipping.
So don’t worry too much about it.
