Do you want to have a sneak peek into my morning routine as a stay-at-home mommy blogger?

Since the covid outbreak, our morning routine has been kicked out of schedule, and it affected working from home.

But you know with time everything sorta falls into place like clockwork.

So here’s my morning routine for school days as a blogger mommy working from home.

My Morning Routine As A Blogger Mommy

Wake up at 7 am every morning

Before quarantine, I’d wake up before 7 am because my daughter has to be at school by 8 am for breakfast and morning circle.

But now I wake up at 7 am, and school starts at 8.30 am for my girl, and 10 am for my son.

The good thing about this is that my girl has school 3 hours Mondays to Thursdays while the boy has 30mins of school just 3 days a week.

So as the week goes by, things get a little easier again.

Now, I hardly get a morning workout or yoga. But I’ve managed to fit my workout routine into a few hours before bed.

Chug down 30 ounces of water

Drinking water is a critical part of my morning routine that I can’t afford to miss for anything.

Once I get up from my bed, I drink a 30 ounces tall cup of water. I usually fill and keep it on my nightstand for the next morning.

Without my water, I can’t function properly because I’d feel like something is missing.

Brush my teeth

After drinking my water, I brush and use mouthwash.

I normally hold the mouthwash for about 5 minutes before spitting it out.

In my opinion, 1 minute is not long enough, and you waste your product without getting its maximum benefit.

So even if I’m going to take a shower, I’m still holding the mouthwash in my mouth until halfway into showering before letting it out.

Use some lip balm

I love to use Carmex every mornings, and nights before bed.

Plus, the weather is cold right now, and the air is dry, so a good lip balm always comes in handy.

Dry cracked lips are no fun. I’m sure you know that too.

Prep the kids for school

Luckily, my 6-year-old can get ready by herself, so she does her thing.

Then my husband preps our 4 year old for school too.

So while all that is happening, I make some breakfast for the kids. They usually have oatmeal and banana when we have lots of time.

Or they eat something faster like toast or cereal when we are running late.

And as they eat breakfast, we set up the book bins and sign in to Zoom for my daughter’s 8.30 am class.

So from the breakfast table, she’s headed to class.

This gives me a bit of space to prep for my work.

Brew a fresh pot of coffee

So while fixing breakfast for the kids, coffee is brewing, and now it is ready for drinking.

I would not have my coffee while prepping the kids because I might end up with a cold cup of jo.

So I usually drink it when the morning commotion is a bit settled.

Check my to-do list and calendar on Trello

Now it is time to check my Trello calendar to have an idea of the day’s work.

Then I’d also do some groundwork to prep for a productive day.

And in 1 hour 30 minutes, my son has to be in class on zoom as well.

So that’s enough time to quickly log in to WordPress and draft a post, or check Pinterest, Trello, and Canva.

Time for my son’s 30 minutes class

At about 5 minutes before 10 am, we login to school on zoom.

Now “Old McDonald” is playing, and he is singing along and warming up for class.

Finally, it is time to drink my hot cup of coffee when my son is somewhat engaged in class.

How many 4-year-olds can concentrate for 30 minutes?

Anyway, he’s in class, and I’m with my coffee. Nothing like a hot cup of freshly brewed coffee.

But I’m still participating because when your 4-year-old is in class on zoom, you, mommy are a student too.

After 30 minutes, his class is done and now he can play and I can begin working.

Get my favorite healthy morning snack

My favorite morning snack is a banana and a portion of roasted almonds. That’s the only thing I might eat after a cup of coffee.

But on intermittent fasting days, I do not eat until 3 or 4 pm.

Next, blast music or podcast and get to work

By 10.30 am my son is done with school. But his big sister is still in class until 11am.

Asides from her extracurricular activities in the afternoon.

Now I either listen to a Rachel Hollis podcast, my new favorite) or play my favorite music playlist on the YouTube music app, and start working on the blog.

Please can you share your favorite female podcasts? I’d love to listen to new ones.

Anyway, I may sit in my office aka my living room until it is time for the kids to have lunch.

So that’s my first break from work, and maybe I’d eat something too.

Then go back to work until whenever.

  1. Hello Buayifa! I’ve really enjoyed reading your morning routine. It must be a lot of adjustment, especially for your 4 years old, but mummies are heroes and make everything happen.
I have a 9 month old myself and I can tell you that it is hard to work from home! I just go with the flow and work whenever I can.

    Kind regards,

    1. Hi Hermione,
Thank you so much for the thoughtful comment.
How are you coping with your 9-month-old and working from home?
Going with the flow makes it a bit easier to adjust.
      More grace to you, mama.
I’m dedicating the song “Superwoman by Alicia Keys” to you, and other mamas out there.
      xx, Buayifa.
