6 Tricks To Drink More Water

1. Get a big water bottle

First things first: to really up your intake, you’re going to need a big water bottle—ideally something around 24 or 32 ounces.

Mine is a 32oz bottle, and I find it easiest to think of it as two 16-ounce servings.

I’ll finish those, refill, and do it all over again when I’m thirsty.

It’s a super simple system you should definitely try!

Just find a glass size that you can comfortably finish in one sitting and use that to ration your water throughout the day.

As you get used to it, you can even start drinking directly from the bottle to see how much you can handle at once.

One quick tip from experience: please listen to your body and don’t force-chug more than you can handle.

I’ve made the mistake of overdoing it before and ended up feeling light-headed—trust me, it’s not a vibe!

Just take it at your own pace.

2. Drink water first thing when you wake up

Remember that big water bottle we just talked about?

Fill it up with water and keep it on your bedside before going to bed every night, then drink from it first thing in the morning.

Make it a habit to fill it up and keep it right on your nightstand before you hit the pillow each night.

That way, it’s the very first thing you reach for in the morning. I do this every single day, and honestly, if I skip it, my whole morning feels a little “off.”

It might feel like a struggle at first, but stick with it!

They say it takes about 21 days to form a habit, and your body will definitely thank you.

My personal goal is to finish my entire 32-ounce bottle before I even touch my morning coffee.

Give it a shot and see how it works for you—or even better, find a morning rhythm that feels right for your own routine.

3. Get a reminder

You definitely need a hydration sidekick because ‘remembering’ to drink water just doesn’t work.

I’m a fan of the Water Reminder app.

It’s super user-friendly—you just enter your weight and wake/sleep times, and it tells you exactly how much to drink.

It also shares some cool hacks on the benefits of drinking water the right way.

I love that you can customize your ‘cup’ size; I have mine set to half my bottle size (16 oz.) so I can log it effortlessly.

Do what works for you, but definitely get that app downloaded so you can stay hydrated.

4. Keep your water within reach

To actually drink more water, you’ve got to make sure your bottle is always within arm’s reach.

The last thing you want is for your app to remind you to drink, only to realize your water is all the way in the other room.

Let’s be real—sometimes you’re so deep in your work that you just can’t bring yourself to get up and grab it.

If that happens and you miss a “drinking window,” it’s not the end of the world, but you don’t want it to become a habit.

To keep things consistent, try keeping your water bottle or even a gallon right at your workstation.

Personally, I like to keep bottles on the coffee table and my nightstand, too—that way, I can grab a drink whenever the thought hits me.

5. Spice Up Your Plain Water

After all these tips, you might be looking at me like, “Okay, but water is just so plain and boring.” I totally get it—lol!

If that’s what’s holding you back, try flavoring your water with fruits or even veggies.

Some people love adding lemon wedges, mint leaves, lime slices, or apple slices.

Even cucumber works wonders.

Just play around with different fruits until you find the flavor you actually enjoy. It makes it so much easier to get your hydration on!

6. Ditch the Soda for Home-Brewed Iced Tea

Let’s be real—it’s only normal to want something other than plain water to quench your thirst sometimes.

But before you jump on the high-calorie soda or sweet tea train, try making your own low-calorie iced tea at home.

The beauty of this is that the only real calories come from the lemons (about 17 calories) and the black tea (just 2 calories per bag) because the sweetener is zero-calorie.

What I usually do is brew a big pitcher with fresh lemon juice, and you can enjoy it hot or cold.

My husband is a huge iced tea fan, too, so a pitcher usually only lasts us a day or maybe a day and a half.

As we speak, I actually have a fresh, refreshing batch sitting in my fridge right now!

If you’re interested in trying it, here is my go-to recipe for low-calorie lemon iced tea:

How to make a low-calorie lemon ice-tea

Here’s exactly how I make it.

It’s super simple, and you can tweak it to your own taste!

Jug of ice tea
Ingredients
Directions
  1. Bring your water to a boil. While that’s going, wash and juice your lemons.
  2. Add your tea bags and the squeezed lemon halves into a pitcher or jug.
  3. Carefully pour the boiling water into the pitcher. Let it brew for a few minutes so the flavor really develops.
  4. Stir in your fresh lemon juice and your favorite zero-calorie sweetener.
  5. Add cold water to fill the rest of the pitcher, then pop it in the fridge to get nice and cold.

Pro-Tip: If you’re like me and can’t wait for it to chill, just pour a glass over ice and enjoy it immediately!

You can remove the tea bags and lemon halves once it’s brewed, but I usually leave mine in until the very last glass.

I love that extra-strong lemony flavor, but do whatever works best for you!

Now, just relax and enjoy your low-calorie lemon iced tea!

This is my go-to whenever I need to quench my thirst but just don’t feel like plain water. Sometimes, if I’m in the mood for a warm drink, I’ll even pop a mug of this in the microwave. It still tastes so good when it’s hot!

But hey, if this specific recipe isn’t for you, that’s totally okay. The goal is just to find what you enjoy so you can stay hydrated and feel your best.
