I Went 3 Months Without The Gym High (Here’s What Happened)
It’s been a crazy few months with our move to Texas and the kids’ summer break stealing the spotlight.
Amid all this chaos, one thing has sadly slipped away—my cherished gym routine.
Can I say how much I’m missing that gym high?
Reflecting on those days of lifting heavy and sweating it out, I realize how much I took that feeling for granted.
It wasn’t just a workout but a crucial part of my life and well-being.
After three months without the gym, let’s discuss how this lack has affected me.
How 3 Months Without The Gym Has Affected Me
1. I’m always exhausted
I thought my energy levels would return, but I’ve been constantly tired.
Without that daily exercise, my body’s rhythm is off.
Even without doing anything stressful, I’m still exhausted.
I want to sleep all day.
2. Anxious over little things or some I can’t even explain
I’m anxious over small things, and some I can’t even put into words.
Exercise was my go-to stress reliever, the secret weapon I relied on to keep anxiety at bay.
Now that those endorphin boosts are missing from my routine, anxiety has sneaked back into my life.
It feels like I’m missing a key piece of my mental health.
3. Feeling too lazy for at-home workouts
I’ve thought about tackling some at-home workouts.
But here’s the kicker—I gave away my dumbbells and other home gym gear during our move.
Beyond that, my motivation is in the dumps.
There are moments when my mind says, “Hey, let’s do a few pushups!” but my body won’t cooperate.
So, I end up giving up.
My enthusiasm for sweating it out in my living room has completely vanished.
4. Overthinking everything
Without the distraction of a good workout, my mind is left to wander.
And I’m left overthinking everything, even the most insignificant things.
This overthinking is taking up way too much mental space that used to be occupied by gym time.
5. Overwhelmed almost all the time
Everything feels overwhelming, from navigating the move to juggling summer chaos.
I’m missing the structure and routine the gym provided, and I’m struggling to fill that void.
My old routine was pretty set:
- prepare the kids for school,
- hit the gym,
- Then come home to work on my blog in a quiet house before the kids returned.
But these past few months have been stressful and disorganized.

6. Increased appetite
When I hit the gym regularly, I had a solid handle on my appetite and diet.
But these past few months?
My hunger has skyrocketed.
My cravings feel endless.
It’s as if my body is desperately trying to compensate for the lack of exercise with extra snacks.
7. I’m quickly out of breath
Simple tasks that used to be a breeze now leave me winded.
My fitness levels have taken a hit.
And I’m feeling it in everyday activities like bending down or squatting to pick something up.
Even just going about my day, I feel uncomfortable, as if I’ve gained more weight than my body can handle.

8. Back and neck pain on and off
Without regular exercise to keep my muscles strong, I’m dealing with more back and neck pain than usual.
It constantly reminds me how vital gym time is for my physical health.

9. Lost my muscle gains after months without the gym
Another thing I’ve noticed since skipping the gym is that I feel like I’ve lost the muscle definition I worked so hard to gain.
When I look in the mirror, I don’t see the same muscle tone I used to have.
It might be partly in my head, but I’m sure it’s not just my imagination.
My shoulders, which used to be well-defined, no longer have that same sharp look.
Also, my once flatter belly now feels bloated, primarily thanks to a combination of poor diet and lack of movement.
Getting back into my groove
I know it’s time to get back into my groove, and I’m on it.
We’ve found a few gyms nearby, and I’ve already registered for a membership.
And I’m planning out a new workout routine.
But I’ll ease into it since I’ve been out for a while.
I’m heading back in tomorrow and excited to reconnect with that routine.
But this break highlighted the importance of the gym for my mental and physical well-being.
If you’ve ever faced a similar fitness lapse, I’d love to hear how you got back on track!
Here’s to rediscovering what makes us feel alive and thriving.
Keep pushing forward, and don’t let those gym highs fade into the past!
Catch you soon!
