Hey there!

Have you ever taken a break from using foundation?

I have, and it wasn’t exactly planned.

This year, I found myself going foundation-free for several months.

It wasn’t a detox or a challenge, but my skin has definitely benefited from it.

So, here’s why I stopped wearing foundation and what happened to my skin after taking that break.

Why I stopped wearing foundation

Why I Took a Break from Foundation (and What Happened to My Skin)

I didn’t wake up one day and decide to quit foundation; it happened more by accident.

I realized I had been using the wrong shade all along.

At first, I didn’t notice because the coverage and the matte finish were fantastic.

But eventually, I saw that my face looked a bit darker after applying it, which made me question whether the shade was even right for me.

The moment of truth came when I was getting ready for church and saw how dark the foundation looked.

I ended up washing it all off and decided to go without it for the day.

From that moment on, I haven’t touched foundation.

I still wear makeup and follow my regular skincare routine, but foundation?

Nope, not for now.

What Happened After I Stopped Wearing Foundation

So, what’s been going on since I ditched the foundation?

Here’s a rundown of my experiences:

1. Glowing skin

Without foundation, I started doing my facials more often.

Whether I used DIY or store-bought products, I wanted my bare face to look its best.

I’ve been using a coffee honey scrub that exfoliates and hydrates, and my skin has never looked better.

Regular exfoliation has given my skin a natural glow, and I’m really enjoying the results.

2. My skin got lots of rest

For someone who always says, “Let your skin breathe,” my skin finally got the chance.

After facials, I’d apply a light moisturizer and nothing else.

No more foundation clogging my pores week after week.

And not having to worry about washing off foundation before bed?

That’s a win in my book!

3. I got comfortable going out with little to no makeup.

It took a bit of getting used to, but I became comfortable with minimal makeup.

My go-to routine now is well-shaped brows, eyeliner, and a bit of lip gloss or tinted lip balm.

Occasionally, I’ll add red lipstick if I’m feeling fancy.

4. Faster Makeup Routine

Without foundation, my makeup application time was cut in half.

I can get ready quickly without the hassle of blending and applying foundation.

My husband definitely appreciates the faster get-ready time!

5. I realized how important foundation is to my makeup

Even though I save time without foundation, I’ve realized how crucial it is for a complete makeup look.

Foundation helps in brightening up the face and making other makeup stand out.

Without it, even my favorite red lipstick doesn’t pop as much.

Foundation does play a big role in achieving a polished look.

Will I Go Back to Foundation?

Yes, I plan to return to foundation eventually, but only when I find the right shade for my skin tone.

Until then, I’m enjoying the break.
